This is the best management book on Business Process Management
The book outlines that Business Process Management is not just limited to improving processes and rolling out technology. But true BPM is about managing process so that the strategic objectives of organizations can be achieved, the book provides a fantastic simple and powerful model for this.
This model takes the Strategy Map and Balanced Score Card from Kaplan & Norton one step further as it outlines that project execution (= Change management) and process execution (= BAU) are both required to actually achieve strategy. Even Kaplan & Norton acknowledge that the majority of strategic obje ctives are not being achieved!
The book contains six detailed BPM case studies that are the most elaborate case studies (most with 50% or more improvement) that I have seen sofar and they provided me with good ammunition to convince my Executives to pursue a holistic approach to BPM rather than just improvement, BPR, Six Sigma or Lean.
I recommend this book for managers, consultants and process professionals that want to achieve results by understanding the concepts of managing business processes and aligning processes, strategy, projects and governance.
I came across this book through the columns of Jeston and Nelis on http://www.bptrends.com.
Subsequently I have read their first book: Business Process Management: practical guidelines for successful implementations. This book provides a powerful and pragmatic approach on HOW to improve the processes, also highly recommended.

Rummler’s Managing the White Space was the only must read for anyone practicing BPM until this book came out. This is the best book I’ve seen on Leadership and Governance. Get it if you’re serious about implementing a business process approach to managing your business.

If you are looking for a book that is process-focused with detailed case studies, then you might pick up this book. While the information was sound, the Figures and Charts were confusing and did not accurately represent the ideas the authors were trying to convey.

I teach courses on Quality and Quality Management and I find that some students have difficulty understanding processes in terms of business management. This book would be a welcome addition that would give them a firm understanding of what processes are and how they are managed in order to minimize process variation and insure consistent quality.

The sheer amount of process required in this book is stifling. It’s no wonder large businesses fail to innovate with such cumbersome structures. This book is geared toward those working in large businesses, and most small and mid-size firms would sabotage their very success if they followed the rigid advice of this book!
